48 Hour Film Festival

Entertainment No Comments

Some members of the ProMotion Arts team partnered up with their colleagues to form Team Awesome to compete in a 48 hour film competition this past June. Criteria for the 48 hour piece was:

Genre: Historical Fiction / Period Piece
Character: Kyle Brown (illustrator)
Prop: Tie
Line: “Wrong. Guess again.”

The team had 48 hours to script, storyboard, build the set, build models, shoot, edit, and author this project. None of the team had ever made a stop motion animation before, so it was quite a learning experience. They shot using two digital SLR cameras with various lenses. The set was built from scratch (after receiving the criteria for the piece) and everything you see was completed within the 48 hour deadline.

The film won the Audience Choice award and Best Use of Prop.

Fast, Cheap, Good

Corporate Comm, New Media No Comments

How many times do we hear this in a typical day? I always say you can have it fast, cheap, or good…pick two. Try picking two and you see how it works. I can do a good job on a budget but it needs to be on my timetable. Or I can do a good job as a rush but it won’t be cheap. Strangely, clients always seem to want it fast, cheap AND good.

Blind Sided: Starbucks

Accessibility, Corporate Comm 1 Comment

Blind Sided is a blind awareness video created for the Washington State Department of Services for the Blind. The overall video is 34 minutes and takes you through the life of an individual living with blindness. In this highly exaggerated example we show you what can happen when everything goes terribly wrong (the “Bad day”) and when things go the way that they should (the “Good day”) and touches on key learning points.

Below is an excerpt from the video which displays the rights and wrongs for customer service in this particular situation. One of the great strengths of the video is to educate and enlighten the audience in a creative and entertaining manner and this is a good example of this unique trait!

Seattle’s Other Holiday Tradition

Corporate Comm, Entertainment No Comments

It is time once again for the Seattle Men’s Chorus and the Seattle Women’s Chorus 2008 Holiday Concerts. Catch the Seattle Men’s Chorus at Benaroya Hall, December 7th through the 22nd and the Seattle Women’s Chorus at Meany Theater, December 13th & 14th.

ProMotion Arts had the opportunity to work with Flying House Productions to put together a commercial with their new catch phrase, “Seattle’s Other Holiday Tradition!”  Although we kicked the nutcracker around a bit in the first edit, we had fun taking the graphic elements and giving them a new dynamic with some motion, eventually settling on the version you see here!

Blind Sided: A Day in the Life

Accessibility, Corporate Comm No Comments

Blind Sided is a blind awareness video created for the Washington State Department of Services for the Blind. To make this project even more interesting our key contact at DSB was also our talent and actively participated in the entire creative process.

The overall video is 34 minutes and takes you through the life of an individual living with blindness. In this highly exaggerated example we show you what can happen when everything goes terribly wrong (the “Bad day”) and when things go the way that they should (the “Good day”) and touches on key learning points.

Below is an excerpt from the video where we’ve combined the “Bad day” with the “Good day” to bring forth one of the learning points.

This video was a long time in the making and turned out to be an exceptional piece of work. Now distributed nationally, Blind Sided is a powerful tool in raising blind awareness to the general public and those who seek to understand more.

Company Profiles

Corporate Comm No Comments

The Russell Group is a coaching and organizational development company focused on delivering improved results.  We had the opportunity to put together a video for Darryl Russell with the Russell Group for their website to display their unique approach with executive coaching.  The production was quick and simple, but produced great results.  We were also able to use this piece of video work to display our company profiling services at the National Minority Supplier Development Council in Las Vegas.
